2017-18 School Year is Underway!

Though we are only a few weeks into the 2017-2018 school year, a welcome back message to our school community seems a bit overdue as students and staff appear to be fully back in the swing of school and families seem settled in their autumn routines.

In recollecting the opening days of this school year, I was moved by the positive energy emanating from students and staff.  As students were smiling and laughing, hugging and reminiscing about summer experiences, I was struck by just how much opening day for students mirrored opening day for our faculty and staff just a week earlier. Watching people coming together, many of whom haven't seen each other for the two-month summer vacation, seemed to be a visual representation of Principal Dorey's theme for this school year: Celebrate and strengthen relationships and take care of one another.

Committed to taking care of our staff and students, a steering committee worked with community organizations to establish the AB Because You Matter campaign.  All members of our school community received a wellness planner that will take them through the year.  We hope that through the mini-workshops available during lunches that correspond with monthly themes, reflection and goal-setting work, and mindfulness activities, all will make balance and wellness a priority in their busy lives.  As a way of introducing the wellness planners to the staff and students, the building administrators had some fun making a short video, click below and enjoy!

In addition, we have expanded our homework-free weekends and vacations to promote periods of respite, family and friend togetherness, social activities, and personal reflection.  I encourage families to join us in embracing Principal Dorey's theme for the 2017-2018 school year: celebrate and strengthen relationships and take care of one another.  That's what matters most.

As important members of our school community, parents and guardians are invited to our Back to School Night on October 5, 2017.  Principal Dorey will welcome all in the auditorium at 6:50pm and then parents and guardians will follow their students' daily schedule, meeting teachers and visiting classrooms.
